GAZA, (PIC)– Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haneyya has congratulated Palestinian national football team for winning the AFC Challenge Cup and qualifying for the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia after defeating the Philippines 1-0.
In a telephone conversation, Haneyya congratulated Head of Palestinian Football Association (PFA) Jibril Rajoub for the victory, praising the historical achievement that came in the wake of celebrations over the reconciliation progress.
He also congratulated the Palestine’s soccer team members and the Palestinian people for this excellent performance and important achievement.
For his part, Rajoub stated that this victory is a gift to Haneyya and PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas after signing the reconciliation agreement.
In its turn, Hamas movement congratulated the Palestinian national Football team for this great achievement despite Israeli aggressions and attacks.
It is expected that the Palestinian soccer team will mark progress in the world’s Football classification hierarchy early next month after winning the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup in the Maldives.
The Palestinian National Football Team has amassed a total of 358 points after achieving 4 victories and a draw in the tournament.
The victory gave Palestine its first ever international football cup victory and first qualification to play at the AFC Asian Cup next year.
